Is MHCS Accredited?

MHCS is accredited by both the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Do the teachers at MHCS have teaching credentials?

MHCS hires teachers who are solid Christians who have valid California Teaching Credentials. Additionally, MHCS teachers maintain Christian Educator Certification through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

What curriculum do you use?

The teachers at Mission Hills follow the California State Standards which are some of the top educational standards in the nation. Additionally, they teach content that is necessary to lay a firm foundation for success in future grades. To that end, our teachers use the best resources available to integrate a biblical worldview with the subject-matter standards. Our preferred textbook publishers are primarily Christian based and include Bob Jones University Press (BJUP), ACSI, and A Beka. In some grades we incorporate additional texts to provide the best learning resources that we can to our students. Addition publishers that we use include Houghton Mifflin, Glencoe, McDougal Littell, Junior Great Books, and Prentice Hall. Please contact our enrollment director for individual grade level overviews that summarize the textbooks used for each grade.

What is your class size?

Our Junior Kindergarten classes have 12-15 students. Our classes in kindergarten through grade 8 have up to 24 students.

How does the academic performance of students compare to that at other private and public schools?

MHCS students regularly score in the top 25% of the nation on the SAT 10 (a norm-referenced test) in core academic subject areas. Because our instructional program is aligned to the California State Standards which are some of the best in the nation, parents can be assured that students are receiving a strong academic foundation that is commensurate with what can be found at any quality academic institution.

Do you have physical education, fine arts, foreign language, or technology instruction?

Yes, we have PE, fine arts, foreign language, and technology instruction in both elementary and junior high grades. You can read more about these programs on the academics home page.

Do you provide any extra support for struggling students?

Our teachers provide free tutoring for students who need extra support to attain concept mastery. Additionally, we have an ESP support program (Exceptional Students Program) that provides remediation and skill building for students with identified needs. Our goal is to help all students to be successful and to achieve their God-given potential.

What do you offer for accelerated students?

Accelerated students may be offered appropriately challenging work that will meet their individual needs while addressing grade level objectives. Advanced students also participate in the Accelerated Reader program and tackle reading materials that are at a higher level. Further, the Math Superstars program provides additional rigor for students in elementary grades. In some instances students are even promoted to higher grade levels for instruction in a specific subject area. In junior high, students are assessed and placed on the track that will provide them with appropriately challenging math courses in which they can learn and grow at the proper pace.

Will my child be prepared to transition successfully to high school after he completes the MHCS program?

Our graduates transition successfully to both public and private high schools, and reports from local schools indicate that our graduates maintain high levels of academic achievement throughout their high school years.
