Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Parochial Athletic League (PAL) structured?

For most sports Parochial Athletic League (PAL) schools field one or two teams at the 7th/8th  grade level and one or two teams at the 5th/6th grade level.

7/8th graders that make up A teams and 5th/6th graders that make up B teams

These teams can be put into Mountain, Canyon, Beach, or Valley Divisions.

Is a 5th/6th grader able to play on a Junior High Team?

Yes.  They are able to make the team having met the league requirements and approval of the athletic director. 

How are tryouts structured?

To maximize the benefits of PAL’s structure it’s important to make sure that athletic teams are based on skills displayed in tryouts (not grade level).  Tryout evaluations are based largely on the skills and abilities on an athlete as well as attitude, work ethic, coach-ability, respect for other players and coaches, and sportsmanship.

 When does the paperwork have to be turned in?

All athletic forms and payment have to be turned in order for your child to participate in the season.  (practice and games)  

When are practices?

Practice times and dates will depend upon the coach’s schedule.  Typically teams practice two times a week until the games begin.  Once the games begin, practices are limited to one day a week.  After tryouts and the team has been formed, the coach and/or the team parent will email the practice schedule.  Usually practices time are right after school (3:00 to 4:00 or 4:30 depending on coach)

Where are practices?

Practice location depends on the sport and facility available. After the roster has been completed you will be notified by the athletic director/coach of the location of the practices.

When do you start playing games?

Fall Sports-Boys Football and Girls Volleyball games begin the week of Sept 17th.

Winter Sports Boys and Girls-Basketball games begin the week of Jan 2nd.

Spring Sports- Grades 1-8 Track and Field, Boys Volleyball, and Coed Soccer games begin the week of March 10th

When do game schedules come out?

Game schedules usually do not come out until the following dates:

Fall-September 13th

Winter-December 20th

Spring-March 7th


Does everyone do playoffs?

ONLY JUNIOR HIGH TEAMS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR PLAYOFFS

What days are games on?

Games are typically played Monday thru Thursday and some occasional Friday’s.  There are one to two games a week depending on the other team’s schedule.  Track and Field meets are on Saturdays.

What time are the games?

Games  begin at 3:30 or 4:30.  There can be an occasional 4:00 game.

How do athlete’s get to the games?

A team parent will volunteer to coordinate carpool for EARLY DISMISSAL GAMES ONLY.  Team Parents are not responsible to coordinate rides home from the games.   The team parent will also send out weekly reminders about practices, game schedules, and other important information. Team Parents are not responsible for coordinating rides to practices. 

Can athletes wear their sport jersey to school on game days and picture day?

Yes, athletes are allowed to wear their sport jersey to school on game days and picture day.  

The sport jersey must be worn with PE shorts. 

On chapel days regular school uniform is worn.

Can my child play in a game if they haven’t been at school?

No. Your child MUST be at school for a minimum of half a day in order to participate in an athletic event.

Is there a fee for participating in the sports program?

Yes, there is a $120 sports participation fee.  The sports fee covers the cost of league fees, official’s compensation, equipment, and facility rental fees.
